Simultaneous Interpreting Boot Camp

Simultaneous interpretation means the interpreter listens to a message in one language and translates it into another language in real-time without pausing.

Professional interpreters are expected to possess simultaneous interpretation skills and be able to flawlessly jump into this mode whenever and wherever necessary. This could be at a clinic, in a school meeting or during a court hearing.

This course focuses specifically on simultaneous interpreting skills. Particpants must be fully bilingual to take this course.

Program Structure

  • 20 hours of live, virtual instruction: Covering subjects such as listening and comprehension skills, multitasking and focus training, technical equipment training, and stress management. Live instruction also includes supervised practice sessions with personalized feedback from the instructor.
  • Five hours of practice outside of class: Participants become skilled at simultaneous interpretation by practicing consistently. Each week, students are required to complete 45 minutes of targeted practice and submit a 15-minute homework assignment.
