Medical Interpreter Training

Become a Medical Interpreter

Our Medical Interpreter Training program is a comprehensive, 70-hour, live, online course that equips bilingual individuals with the essential skills and knowledge to excel as professional medical interpreters.

Medical interpreters play a crucial role in bridging communication gaps between healthcare providers and patients with limited English proficiency. By joining TLC’s Medical Interpreter Training, you’ll advance your career and make a significant impact on patient care and outcomes.

Participants must:

  • Be 18 years old or older.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Speak English and one other language fluently. This is measured with two telephonic language assessments to evaluate fluency: one in English, and one in your other working language.
  • Students who withdraw before the first day of class or within the first two class hours: Full refund.
  • Students who withdraw after the first two class hours: No refund.

In the U.S., there are two national certifying bodies for medical interpreters: the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters and the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters.

After you complete an approved medical interpreter training program like this one, you can contact one of the two national certifying bodies and apply to become certified. You then have to take the assessments they provide. If you pass, you will be awarded the corresponding credentials. Please consult CCHI and NBCMI eligibility requirements for more information.
